Serpentine Chalet Dam – Serpentine Gorge<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Up at 6 am, per usual. It is dark until 7 am. It takes me most of that time to change clothes, pack up all my sleeping gear, and pack my tent. At this time of the morning my muscle memory kicks in and most things happen without too much thought. Whilst the packing is going on, I cook some breakfast. This morning, breakfast was porridge with apple and sultanas, a cup of hot chocolate and two pieces of chocolate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We started walking at 7:30 am. It was a fantastic day of walking today. After an hour we had morning tea on a small knoll. Then we had a 300 meter climb up onto a range of hills. There is a side trip to Counts Point, where there are fantastic views. We took a lot of photographs. There was also a chair to rest on and I had trouble getting up because I was enjoying the views so much. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At last night\u2019s camp there were three Tasmanians, young men who were brothers. We met them again at Counts Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The walk then continues along the top of the range of hills, with views all around. It is a very scenic stage of the Larapinta track. Because of this, and because of the available access at both ends of today\u2019s walk, we met a number of organised groups of day walkers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I learnt today from one of the guides of the organised groups that the rocks I was looking at have distinct ripples. These ripples were formed 360 million years ago when there was an inland sea with a sandy bed. The action of the water on the bed created small ripples and then, when the rock was compressed, the ripples remained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The track then descends 300 m and shortly thereafter we reached Serpentine Gorge Camp. It was 1 pm so we decided to rest and have lunch. The day was getting quite warm, although it was not hot. Lunch today was sushi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch there was a bit of quiet time. I wrote my blog for the day and read some of my book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 3 pm, we all wandered towards the gorge to have a look. It was very cool at the gorge. It\u2019s about a 10 minute walk from the campsite. At the gorge, there is a waterhole with very cold water, and plenty of shade. Kelvin was reading a kindle, and Steven was lying on his back. Dave was busying himself with his phone camera, and then he went up to the lookout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I followed Dave up to the lookout. From there, you get a view beyond the waterhole and all the way up the gorge, which extends for quite a way before terminating at a narrow chasm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I came down from the lookout and went back to the waterhole for another look, and had a chat to Kelvin and Sue. Then I came back to the campsite to prepare for dinner (green chicken curry).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 7:30 pm it was time for bed. I had to use the pee bottle twice in the night. Where does it all come from? <\/p>\n\n\n\n
