I know I need a small vacation,
Jimmy Webb.
but it don’t look like rain…
I thought of these words from Wichita Lineman as I walked 6.1 km up the fire trail back to my car. It’s a long steady 200m climb. The sun was shining, as it had for all four days of my walk.
I had breakfast overlooking the beach at Oberon Bay, looking out to Norman Island on the horizon. Life’s good.

It’s a 3.4 km walk back to the Telegraph Saddle junction. The morning air was clear and I saw a few wallabies nonchalantly grazing on the sweet grass growing by the track.
I got to my car at around 10am and drove back to the visitors’ centre at Tidal River, where I treated myself to hot chips (which taste best after a decent walk).
So ended my walk, but not my “small vacation”, as I still had a 2 day drive back to Sydney. Lunch on the way at the charming town of Yarram.

I stopped the night at Binn Beach. Long, flat, firm sandy beach, great for a stroll the next morning.

Then a long drive back to Sydney for a hot shower before a welcome-home kiss from Trish.
